He was stopped as he returned to his home in the West Bridgford area of Nottingham on Friday morning. He had reportedly been out celebrating his birthday, which was last week, before he was stopped.
Swann, 31, who is currently ranked the second best bowler in the world, has just returned from a successful tour of South Africa and Bangladesh.
Former New Zealand international Hamish Marshall is looking to return to international cricket with Ireland as both a player and coach.
31-year-old Marshall has not played for the Black Caps since the 2007 World Cup and has been playing in English county cricket as a Kolpak player.
The Gloucestershire middle-order batsman already holds an Irish passport and would be eligible to play for Ireland from April 2011, subject to approval from the International Cricket Council.
Marshall turned down a New Zealand contract for the 2007-08 season in order to play county cricket, but he now wants to return to the international arena with Ireland.
