UAE post highest one-day total

UAE piled up a record breaking 510 for 5 in 50 overs in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Elite Trophy at the Unity ground in Kuwait on 1st April.

Saqib Ali led the run riot with an unbeaten 141 while vice-captain Naeemuddin Eslam cracked 98 runs. Abdul Rahman too chipped in with 76 runs. Arshad Ali hit 50 runs while Indika Sampath scored 63 runs. Skipper Khurram Khan too hit 29 runs.

Bhutan were bowled out for 73 runs to give UAE a 437-run victory.

UAE missed out on entering the world record books on a minor technicality as Bhutan are not an associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC). A contest between an associate and affiliate member will not be considered as a world record.

However, UAE scored more than the highest score in a One-day international match by Sri Lanka when they scored 443 for 9 in 50 overs versus Netherlands in Amstelveen on July 4, 2006. Incidentally UAE also shattered the record for the highest score in a One-day List A match. England's county team Surrey hold the record by having scored 496 for 4 against Gloucestershire at the Oval on April 29, 2007.
