- The first ODI was played on 5 January 1971 between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Australia won the game by 5 wickets.Opening batsman John Hugh Edrich of England for his brilliant 82 were chosen Man of the match.
- Wasim Akram and Mohammad Sami,of Pakistan, are the only cricketers to have taken a hat-trick in Test cricket and ODIs.
- Uniquely, Wasim Akram has taken four international hat-tricks(two in test and two in one dayers) in all.
