West Zone created a world record in first class cricket by successfully chasing down a 536-run target to clinch the Duleep Trophy title with a three-wicket victory over South Zone.
It was Yusuf Pathan’s phenomenal unbeaten 210...his maiden first class double-century that steered West Zone to the sensational win.
The win marked the highest successful run chase in the history of first class cricket although the total, 541 for seven, is not the highest fourth-innings total. Teams have scored more runs in their fourth innings in the past but they never resulted in a victory.
Yusuf just face 190 balls and hit 19 fours and 10 massive sixes...initially WZ opener batsmen C Pathak sets up stage for Yousuf and rest is history...C Pathak scored 130 runs and shared a good partnership with W Jaffer...but in the end it was Yusuf who made the difference..he scored century (108 off 76 balls) in the first inning also...that century comes in 73 balls with 5 sixes...Between all this we can not ignore the effort of D Karthik, he batted like a monster in both the innings..he scored 183 and 150 in 1st and 2nd inning...his fielders put his knock in vain..they drop 5 catches of Yusuf...
But he was fabulous...Hats off to Yusuf pathan!!!! what an inning he has played, I think this is his best inning so far.
Kudos to the West Zone...they lift the Duleep Trophy for the 16th time..
